Jeux d’eau (Maurice Ravel)
2009
What is the color of time? Science tells us that color does not exist in the world apart from us and our perceptions, that it is the confluence of a subjective experience. chronochromes (2008-2010) sets out instead from the premise that color, like everything else, belongs materially to time itself and that time is the ultimate principle. This series is an experiment in presenting time as a colorist.
The series attends in particular to musical time. A large-format camera was modified to allow music to be printed directly onto chromogenic paper. Each image was exposed for the length of the musical piece.
chronochromes is also an investigation into the personal experience of seeing colors in music.
